Decarbonising Buildings: Advancing Net-Zero

The building and construction sector is globally responsible for 36% of energy consumption, 38% of energy related carbon emissions, 50% of resource consumption, and is expected to double in total footprint by 2060.

Emirates Green Building Council is dedicated to support local market transformation towards total sector decarbonisation. To support the UAE’s strategies, EmiratesGBC has established the Net Zero Centre of Excellence, as a think-tank and accelerator combining multiple pathways, which aims to advance the net zero buildings movement in the UAE provides. This presentation will show the different actions and initiatives that can help achieving net zero targets.

The first recycled Engineered Wooden Board from Palm Waste

Desert Board by Al Talah Board manufacturing is the first recycling plant in the world to produce an Engineered Wooden Board, with solid structural properties (comparable to OSB 3 Boards), from palm waste.

Kareem Farah showcases how Desert Board’s products are comparable to OSB boards that have many potential uses, such as shuttering material for concreting, hoarding on construction sites, panels for cabinets in the joinery industry, elevated walkways where there is scaffolding, furniture, heavy-duty packing boxes for shipping purposes, doors, event stands for exhibitions, and are even used to build houses, as well as for partitions in homes in North America, Europe, and Australasia.

A Healthy and Sustainable Building Solution

A Healthy Life requires access to healthy Air, Water and Food. As humans spend most of their lives indoor, the Indoor Air Quality is highly important to occupants’ health. In tropical countries, there are many factors that affect the Indoor Air Quality leading to many respiratory health problems, which are collectively titled as Sick Building Syndrome. The productivity of a person also gets reduced due to sickness faced, which in turn collectively affects the national economy. In this presentation, Samiullah showscases how Saif Air Tech’s HEECO2R helps provides the required Healthy Indoor Air Quality to turn a building into a HEALTHY BUILDING.
